This is framed as a surprise, and maybe starting code reviews earlier could help allay concerns. At the same time, without agreement from CFIUS on how code reviews could be reliably done, documented and trusted, it could be a huge waste of time and money to start on spec.

I've made peace with "we're going to burn billions of dollars and thousands of jobs over ten years to recreate cable television", but I am just goddam not going to go along with the kabuki theater of pretending these rocket scientists are *inventing* it just now.

I spent the last four months investigating law enforcement reaction and exposure to fentanyl. In many cases, officers claimed to have overdosed in ways medical experts say isn't possible.

one wild thing about the "organized retail crime" panic is that we have almost no reliable sources. cops want to inflate their own importance and pad their budgets, while retailers want to offload their security costs onto taxpayers.

Been thinking a lot lately how legislation around credit card processing, site registration requirements, other hurdles have kept adult film producers, directors, and performers from marketing themselves independently - and basically fed the porn monopolies and their algorithms.

Does anyone have research/data on demographic differences in user engagement with content moderation?
I know Jon Penney's work on DMCA counternotice. But more on gender, race, etc. disparities in users seeking removal of content, appealing removals, etc. would be great.

@thomasgermain: we haven't seen A.I "capable of replacing human critical thinking...I don't think it's quite time to panic, yet."
