Watching the new Ghostbusters movie was like watching an old band at a big event, they played all the hits, covered some recent hits by other people, then threw their long dead member on stage as a hologram to run some sample to combine with a new track.

Important piece of history: we didn't end up with today's broken digital landscape because we didn't know or didn't understand. We knew — but made the decision to trust tech to self-regulate and be trustworthy. Read this thread for context, and for hope!

  9. Fascinating deep dive into the world of alt-meat: Due to the high cost to manufacture, plus the process of explaining what cell-based meat is, experts anticipate that this segment won’t be a relevant competitor in the US meat market for another decade.

Who in the world is keeping up with these? Rebirth was in 2016, the New 52 was 2011 and One Year Later was in 2006. Is the new mandate just to do one of these unreadable universe reboots every 5 years? Who can keep track? It takes 5 years to catch up.

Thank you Josh. This is not just about credit, which is important, but also balance. My life is spent sharpening messaging, growing a non-profit, and managing an incredible level of abuse and harassment. Erasing from this story lets bad people win.

t also got Jan thinking about how the technology might be useful even when classes are held in person. She's now teaching a 14-student course that will use Quest 2 headsets for virtual crisis simulations in South Asia — for example, visualizing the 1947 partition of India with 360-degree videos so students feel like they're immersed in the event.
"What it does is it kind of focuses the classroom," Jan said. Students are less distracted by other activities like texting and checking email, and, she pointed out, if any of them take off their headsets while they're supposed to be in her VR classroom their avatars will noticeably droop.

  18. cryptocurrency scams, especially affinity fraud via social media, is the largest chunk of consumer losses to scams according to the FTC

The largest chunk of monetary losses came from investing and cryptocurrency scams, which accounted for over $284 million, with more than half of the scams starting on social media. Reports to the FTC show scammers used social media to promote bogus investment opportunities, and even to connect with people directly as “friends” to encourage them to invest.

  20. Waking up in the morning and asking yourself how you can exploit people and convince them that they should feel good about it. 🥴

Merchants and other organizations collect a veritable treasure trove of data about consumers every day. Yet, with ever-changing data privacy regulations increasing in intensity and strictness across the globe, it’s clear that consumers are worried about the unbridled use of their personal information. So, the real question remains: How can we tap into the potential revenue streams offered by these massive caches of data without losing the trust and goodwill of the consumer?

For owners of multifamily residential communities, the benefit of using and selling resident data can be significant. From contact data to demographic info to behavioral data, multifamily residents are a significant source of valuable data.
